Education: Master of Science in Business Administration and Commercial Law
Title: Strategic Sourcing Manager
What caused you to join APMM?
I applied for the job via the Maersk.com job portal. Actually, I was offered a different position in the Group within Finance. But I felt that Maersk Procurement was a better match for my qualifications, personality and ambitions – and I successfully pursued a position here instead.
What is your job about?
I am involved in numerous strategic sourcing projects and varying steps in the process. My daily activities involve managing internal stakeholders, analysing internal and market data, preparing input for client proposals, preparing and participating in supplier workshops, developing and executing strategies and conducting negotiations.
What are you working with at the moment?
I am finishing up the negotiations of terminal services in an Asian port. I am also working on a new project connected to our container business, which we recently launched in our Western operations.
What do you particularly value about your work?
The environment is always changing and no two days are the same. Things develop so rapidly, I never know what to expect. This gives me excellent learning opportunities and project management challenges. Working with different departments in the A.P. Moller - Maersk Group gives me a chance to learn about other business units and build an extensive network.
In Maersk Procurement, I had responsibility for my own performance right from the start. There are always new development opportunities and new initiatives. I also work with very capable and ambitious colleagues, and this creates an exciting atmosphere and many learning opportunities.
How has your career at APMM progressed?
I started as Strategic Sourcing Manager in Legal. Six months later, I was officially given the dual role of Strategic Sourcing Manager and Legal Manager. Two internal promotions followed over the next two years. I am now Strategic Sourcing Manager and Assistant Team Lead in my sourcing team and focus purely on strategic sourcing.
Within a few months of starting in Maersk Procurement, I began an extensive eight-month Maersk Advanced Procurement Program run by McKinsey & Co. Over the last two years, I have completed further training and education courses both in and outside the company.
The experience I have gained working with colleagues and suppliers has also helped me grow both professionally and personally during my two years at Maersk Procurement.
Overall, what is it like to be a part of APMM?
To be a part of the Group is to be in a challenging and dynamic environment full of opportunities for personal and career development. The willingness of the A.P. Moller - Maersk Group to give responsibility to young employees has allowed me to develop rapidly and work my way towards increased responsibilities. My learning curve has been very steep, supported by both theoretical training and practical application, and I have been in charge of my own job and career development.
