Camille Kleijn

44 years, joined APMM in 2006
Title: Senior Strategic Sourcing Manager

What caused you to join APMM?
I joined APMM from P&O Nedlloyd when the company was bought. Before the take-over I coordinated the world-wide contracting of port contracts in Rotterdam. After the take-over I was introduced to Maersk Procurement and was immediately drawn to the project work at many different entities within the group and different commodities. Furthermore APMM is a truly global company with presence on all continents.

What is your job about?
My job is very much about transferring my experience on to new people who join the department and at the same time showing local organizations anywhere in the world how to source strategically. We operate in close knit teams who often work on location. The job is very much about tight dead-lines and ambitious goals. Our aim is to meet these targets and have fun along the way.

What are you working with at the moment?
At this moment I am working in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan where my team is helping the local organization in procuring trucking capacity in most big Chinese cities as well as transport capacity on the Pearl River, China’s biggest production area. We need to deliver savings in a difficult market and educate our Chinese colleagues so they can do the same again next year independently.

What do you particularly value about your work?
The job is very global and allows you to take learning from one part of the world to a different part. The teams are always close due to common travel thus getting to know colleagues outside the office. The pace is high and pressure is always on, but there is always a fun element in the team.

How has your career at APMM progressed?
I started out as a team member and quickly moved to lead ever more challenging projects. Each time the composition of the team changes depending on the project.

Overall, what is it like to be a part of APMM?
As the group is present in so many different countries, there are opportunities to move to any country you would like to live. The company encourages people to change jobs regularly and helps you to be prepared for the next move in your career. Maersk Procurement in particular lets you be a master of your own destiny.
I plan to stay in Copenhagen for two more years and then move on to wherever my family would like to live.
